Yoga mudras are the symbolic hand, eyes & body gestures that are based on the principle of Ayurveda to heal and redirects energy in the different organs of the body.

Yoga Mudras, along with being a part of Yoga, are also a part of rituals in different traditions like Hinduism and Buddhism. Mudras in yoga are practices in conjunction with Pranayama and Meditation to redirects the flow of life-force (Prana).

Yoga mudra is a very similar practice like asana except that most of the mudra comprises the hand pose but not the whole body like in Asana.

Asana. The physical Pose
Mudra. The Finger or Hand Pose

Mudra comprises ‘Mud’ means ‘Delight’ & ‘Ra’ means ‘Produce’.

The literal meaning of mudra is ‘seal’, ‘gesture’ or ‘mark’. The ‘gesture’ of hand, face, finger or other body organs which represent some specific energy lies within the body.

Mudra’s role is to stimulate brain centers & directs energy flow within the body just by pressing the different combination of hand & fingers.

Mudras utilized along with the Pranayama & Meditation activities to watch the flow of Prana (life force) in the body. It is the purpose of mudra to create a closed circuit for prana.

Thus, by giving prana a space to flow freely without any physical or mental obstacle, we can alter the energy patterns in the body.
